El Jaragual is a 150-hectare family-operated farm, meticulously overseen by Jorge Mira, a forestry engineer with a deep commitment to sustainable agriculture. Nestled at 1,500 meters above sea level in Amalfi, Antioquia, Colombia, El Jaragual is ideally situated in the northern region of the central Colombian Andes—a prime location for cultivating premium coffee.

Jorge’s expertise in forestry is evident across the farm, where a significant portion is dedicated to sustainable timber production through pine tree plantations, alongside conserved native forests. This thoughtful integration of forestry and coffee cultivation underscores Jorge’s commitment to both environmental stewardship and agricultural innovation.

At El Jaragual, seven distinct coffee varieties thrive under the shade of plantain trees and native agroforestry species. From traditional Castillo and Colombia to the more exotic Pink Bourbon and Gesha, each variety is carefully nurtured to bring out its full potential. Looking ahead, the farm plans to introduce even more exciting varieties this year, including Typica Mejorado and Sidra, further expanding its diverse coffee portfolio.

The coffee processing at El Jaragual is a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity. The team employs refined methods that include extended fermentation with yeast inoculation and precise temperature control—such as warm water rinses and cool water quenches—to enhance and stabilise the aromatic qualities developed during fermentation. This meticulous approach ensures that each batch of coffee from El Jaragual is not only rich in flavour but also consistently exceptional, reflecting the farm’s dedication to quality and innovation.
